Nicolas Chronos MD, FACC, FESC

Founder

Dr. Nicolas Chronos, managing partner of Lake Country Medical Group, is an internist and interventional cardiologist well known for his groundbreaking research in heart disease treatment. In addition to his internal medicine expertise, he specializes in general cardiology, coronary artery disease management and heart failure management. He is also an expert in cardiac regenerative medicine, cardiovascular medical device assessment and translational cardiovascular medicine.

Dr. Chronos established Lake Country Medical Group, originally named Cardiology Care Clinic, in 2012 with a mission to bring world-class care to the community he cares about so deeply.

Dr. Chronos received a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine at the University of London in 1987. He then trained in cardiology and interventional cardiology at the Royal Brompton National Heart and Lung Institute in London.

In 1992, Dr. Chronos was awarded a British Heart Foundation International Fellowship and moved to the United States to continue his interventional cardiology research at Emory University School of Medicine under the direction of Dr. Spencer B. King, III. He was named director of research at the Andreas Gruentzig Cardiovascular Center at Emory University Hospital in 1997.

In 1999, Dr. Chronos joined Atlanta Cardiology Group, where he developed and served as CEO of the Saint Joseph’s Translational Research Institute until 2012, when he left to form Cardiology Care Clinics. Dr. Chronos has held academic appointments at Duke University and is currently an adjunct professor of medicine and cardiology at Stanford University.

Dr. Chronos is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the European Society of Cardiology and the Royal College of Physicians of London. He has published several books and more than 200 peer-reviewed articles. It is his true passion, however, to treat patients within the Lake Oconee community, where he and his family have resided for many years.

Dr. Chronos has three wonderful children: Alex, Theo, & Christina.

Albert

Albert Serrian CPA, MBA

Financial Advisor

 

 

Albert has been a healthcare executive for over 27 years. He has a demonstrated history of working in large practices and large healthcare organizations. His knowledge of operations, finance, and business management within healthcare has led to the development and growth of several medical practices. 

Albert is the Vice President of Development for a multi-specialty physician practice where he helped develop the connected care department which includes chronic care management, remote patient monitoring, principal care management, transitional care management, telehealth, and annual wellness visits. Through this experience he witnessed first-hand the positive outcomes for both the patients and practices. 

He is passionate about supporting the success of care and operations within practices. 

Previously, Albert was the AVP of Cardiology Practice Services where he oversaw all operational and financial aspects of Gwinnett Health System. In addition, as CEO of CardioVascular group, Albert oversaw day to day operations, cash management, budgeting, banking and all other aspects of running a 30 million dollar medical practice. 

 

RJ Brooks

Treasurer

RJ Brooks directs the day-to-day functions of Lake Country Medical Group. RJ coordinates with a care team to provide patients with a smooth, hassle-free experience. RJ has over 10 years of experience in durable medical equipment. His passion is facilitating an environment where patients can enjoy excellent health care with convenience and comfort.

Alexis Barker

Executive Director

Alexis joined Lake Country Medical Group in May 2024 as a Medical Scribe and Clinical Research Assistant. In this role, she collaborated closely with Dr. Chronos and the research team on the CORDIO clinical trial, contributing to daily operations and data collection efforts. Over the past year, she has remained actively engaged in both clinical scribing and ongoing research projects. As her passion for healthcare and leadership deepened, Alexis accepted the position of Executive Director of the Lake Country Rural Health Initiative. Growing up in a rural community instilled in her a strong commitment to improving healthcare education and access in underserved areas. She is dedicated to advancing the organization’s mission and building on the foundation laid by her predecessors. Alexis is currently a fourth-year Biomedical Physiology student at the University of Georgia and plans to pursue a career in medicine after graduation.

Internship

Emily Haskins

Internship Program Co-Director

 

 

Emily Haskins is a rising senior at the University of Georgia majoring in Biological Sciences on the Pre-Physician Assistant track. She began her journey at the clinic as an intern in the Spring of 2024, and after being involved in various roles throughout the clinic, she was able to rise to her current role as Internship Program Co-Director. In this position, Emily is responsible for training incoming scribes and interns, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in clinical environments. She also helps coordinate shadowing opportunities with healthcare providers across Georgia, allowing students to gain meaningful learning experiences. Beyond the clinic, Emily serves on the advisory board of the UGA Rural Health Initiative, where she helps connect students to exposure in diverse areas of healthcare. Emily is excited to continue growing in her role and looks forward to making a lasting impact on the Lake Country Medical Group Rural Health Initiative!

 

Dung Ton

Internship Program Assistant Director

Dung Ton is the currently the assistant internship director for Lake Country Medical Group (LCMG). With past experience working with organizations like the Red Cross and the UGA Health center to serve different underserved communities and minorities, it has led him to begin his journey here at Lake Country Medical Group as a scribe starting Spring 2025 and now as assistant intern director as well as a researcher for the clinic. He is also currently a pre-med student at the University of Georgia, studying Biomedical Physiology, and is passionate about improving health literacy in underserved communities, and plans to attend medical school after graduating with a dream to become a cardiothoracic surgeon.

Alex Ribic

Internship Co-Director and Research Liason

 

 

Alex Ribic joined Lake Country Medical Group as a medical scribe in January of 2025. As an intern with numerous aspirations to mentor and increase her involvement with Lake Country Medical Group, she was offered the opportunity to be one of the Internship Co-Directors. In this leadership role, Alex has taught interns how to scribe, encouraged their involvement with the clinic, and facilitated weekly clinical lessons for the interns to learn important medical topics as they continue advancing through their journey to a career in healthcare. Alex is currently a rising Senior at the University of Georgia, majoring in Biology with an emphasis in Neuroscience, and is planning to apply to medical school in the future. Alex has participated in various service-learning certificate programs, which included community volunteering and hospital volunteering, and she has attended a study abroad to Guatemala to intern at various clinic locations. With her previous experience in undergraduate research at the University of Georgia, as well as presenting her research poster at the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities Symposium, Alex is very excited to work with and contribute to the Lake Country Medical Group Rural Health Initiative!

 

Fareena Hisamuddin

Research Liaison

Fareena Hisamuddin began her journey as an intern at Lake Country Medical Group in the Spring of 2025. Her experience at the clinic and interacting with local communities inspired her to join the Lake Country Rural Health Initiative with a strong interest in initiating and developing research projects to address healthcare disparities in rural and underserved populations. Fareena is a recent graduate of the University of Georgia with plans to attend medical school next year, where she hopes to continue pursuing research and her passion for service.

Dhruv Patel

Dhruv Patel joined Lake Country Medical Group as an intern, scribing for both Dr. Chronos and Nurse Practitioner Amy Hayes in Fall 2024. In this role, Dhruv has gained clinical experience in both cardiology and internal medicine while also learning about the challenges and rewarding aspects of rural healthcare. Serving the underserved communities is something that Dhruv is very passionate about and this led to him joining the Lake Country Rural Health Initiative as a co-director of fundraising and assistant director of the Ambassador’s Program. Currently, Dhruv is a senior at the University of Georgia pursuing a degree in microbiology with a minor in business. After college, Dhruv plans to attend medical school with a growing interest in anesthesiology and commitment to serving the underserved communities. 

 

Elle Eisele

Ambassadors Program

Elle Eisele is a third-year Biomedical Physiology major on the pre-medicine track at the University of Georgia. She was first introduced to rural healthcare through Lake Country Medical Group’s nonprofit club at UGA, where she quickly developed an interest in helping close the gap between urban and rural health access. Through attending screening clinics, volunteer events, and club meetings, her passion for rural health has continued to grow. Elle now serves as the leader of the Athens Academy Ambassador Program, mentoring students as they explore careers in healthcare. This is her second semester as an intern with Lake Country Medical Group, where she is eager to continue building her experience and deepening her involvement with both the clinic and the nonprofit organization.

Mallory Bates

Mallory Bates is a senior exercise science major at Georgia College & State University with a concentration in pre physician assistant studies. She has been a part of Lake Country Medical Group for 5 months now and is currently a scribe for Kim Warcnock NP- Internal and Teen medicine at the office. Some fields she is currently interested in pursuing are pediatric cardiology and OB-GYN.

 

Josiah Celestin

Ambassadors Program

Josiah Celestin began working at Lake Country Medical Group as a medical scribe in Spring 2025. As a fourth-year public health major at the University of Georgia, Josiah is particularly interested in cardiology research and is committed to contributing meaningfully to the work of our nonprofit. With a strong passion for Rural Health, he seeks to better understand the healthcare disparities faced by underserved communities and aims to apply this knowledge in his future career as a physician. He currently serves as Co-Director of the Ambassadors Program, where he leads efforts to increase engagement and health education promotion in Rural Schools across Georgia.

Baylor Edge

Baylor Edge joined Lake Country Medical Group in January 2025 as a student intern and is currently in his fifth year at the University of Georgia, pursuing a degree in psychology with minors in biomedical physiology and biology. He spent two years playing collegiate baseball at Young Harris College before transferring to UGA. Growing up in Monticello, Georgia, Baylor witnessed the shortage of small-town physicians early in life, which helped shape his medical aspirations toward rural health care. After graduating in December 2025, he plans to take a gap year to gain medical experience, travel, and explore rural health disparities before applying to medical school.

 

Chandler Baudin

Vice President of Screening Clinics

Chandler Baudin began her time at Lake Country Medical Group in January of 2025 as a medical scribe intern, where she has gained valuable clinical experience and deepened her understanding of patient care. She is currently preparing to enter her senior year at the University of Georgia, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. Driven by a long-standing commitment to serving underserved communities, Chandler has taken on the role of Vice President of Screening Clinics, helping to expand access to essential healthcare services. Following graduation, she plans to continue her journey in medicine by attending Physician Assistant (PA) school and furthering her impact in the field of healthcare.

Henry Smith

Co-Director of Fundraising

Henry Smith is a 3rd year student studying Biomedical Physiology at the University of Georgia. His passion for rural health led him to the Lake Country Rural Health Initiative through its UGA club. Seeing the real-world impact of the nonprofit’s efforts through the student club inspired him to take on a more active role in advancing its mission.

After graduation, he plans to attend medical school and pursue a career in Family Medicine and Health Policy, with the long-term goal of practicing in a rural area and building lasting relationships with the people he serves.

Etienne Choquart

Etienne Choquart started his time with the Lake Country Medical Group through the nonprofit, under which he currently leads the Rural Health Initiative club at UGA. Through the nonprofit and clinic, he is working to pioneer research efforts in vision health in rural and underserved communities. Etienne is currently in his 3rd year at the University of Georgia, studying Biomedical Physiology with plans to attend medical school after graduation.
